Android TV and Google TV sets install IPTV players straight from Google Play and are the easiest. Apple TV uses the App Store. Samsung (Tizen) and LG (webOS) only allow apps from their own stores, where a small number of IPTV players are published. If your TV's store has nothing suitable, an inexpensive streaming stick in a spare HDMI port solves it permanently.

Android TV and Google TV
These are full Android devices, so anything that runs on an Android box runs here. Open Google Play, search for an IPTV player, install, sign in. That is the whole process.

Samsung TVs (Tizen)
Samsung only permits apps from its own store, and the selection of IPTV players there is small and changes over time. The set-up itself is ordinary once you have found one:
- Press Home and open Apps.
- Search for an IPTV player supporting M3U or Xtream Codes.
- Install it and note any device ID or MAC address it displays — some players use this to link your playlist.
- Enter your credentials, or upload the playlist through the player's own web portal if it asks you to.
Several Tizen and webOS players work by pairing the TV to a web page where you paste the playlist URL, sometimes after a small one-off fee to the app developer. That is the app's business model, not a charge from us.
LG TVs (webOS)
webOS works the same way as Tizen: the LG Content Store is the only source, and a handful of IPTV players are published there. The device-ID pairing pattern is common here too.
On both Samsung and LG, expect a simpler interface and a weaker guide than on Android. If the programme guide matters to you, a streaming stick will serve you better than the television's own apps.
Apple TV
tvOS has genuine IPTV players in the App Store, and they are generally well built. Install from the App Store, sign in with your credentials, and the set-up is as simple as Android's.
Apple TV hardware is also the most consistent performer in this category — it handles large channel lists and 4K streams without the memory pressure that affects cheaper devices.
When the TV cannot do it
Some televisions simply cannot run an IPTV player: older sets, budget models with proprietary firmware, and anything whose store has been abandoned by its manufacturer.
The fix is a streaming stick in a spare HDMI port. It costs less than a few months of subscription, it is faster than the television's own processor, and it will outlive the TV's software support. Fire Stick set-up and Android box set-up both take about ten minutes.
